Homemade Play Dough

My child is starting to get to that age where she requires more than just a few toys to get her by.  Sometimes she gets bored and with boredom comes whining.  I don't do whining.  Enter homemade play dough.

I've had this play dough recipe pinned for quite awhile now and I figured with the crappy weather keeping us in all day, it would be a good day to cook it up.  Quinn is finally at the stage where she doesn't put whatever is placed in front of her directly in her mouth.

This recipe takes ingredients that we all have stocked in our kitchens and take very little effort to actually do. It's safe even if your kiddo decides they want to take a bite.

Ingredients:
1 C. Flour
1 C. Warm Water
2 Tsp. Cream of Tartar
1 Tsp. Oil
1/4 C. Salt
Food Coloring

Mix ingredients (except food coloring) in a sauce pan over medium heat and stir until smooth.  Stir continuously until the dough balls.  Remove from heat.

Once the dough is cool, shape into ball and divide into as many colors as you would like to make.  I did four.  Mix food coloring into dough and knead it in until it's the color you desire (I put mine in a Ziploc and massaged the outside of the bag so I didn't stain my hands...high maintenance, I know!).

Then play!

This looks says get the heck out of my face with that camera lady!

I'm off to make chocolate chip cookies for the husband.  Just being Betty Freaking Crocker and Suzy Homemaker this weekend.
